Fiber optics have been used in auto mobile wire-harnesses for many years as a reliable and robust way of transporting multimedia and entertainment signals through the vehicle whilst avoiding electromagnetic interference.  Fibre optic is light weight, flexible and offers high bandwidth.  Multimedia requirements in vehicles have increased rapidly – as cameras, voice activated controls, mobile phone, PDA, GPS, DVD and TV’s have become common place.

Sumitomo Electric Group has a long and well established history in the development of fibre optics, both in the automotive industry and from its Information and Communications business field.  SEWS-E is able to exploit this knowledge in its European wire harness products.
